The UN Commits to Strengthening Support for Somalia’s Peace and State-Building Efforts

While in Somalia, the UN representative had in-depth discussions with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and his key advisors, along with engaging civil society leaders.
During her conversation with the president, DiCarlo acknowledged Somalia’s significant milestones, such as achieving debt relief through the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries Initiative, joining the East African Community, and the removal of the arms embargo.
She praised Somalia for securing a seat on the UN Security Council for 2025-2026.
The UN delegation reiterated their steadfast commitment to assisting Somalia moving forward, collaborating intimately on the planned transition to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia, set for January 1, 2025.
