It has been a three-week campaign for the presidential and legislative elections on December 27. In one night, the city of Niamey changed color: the various teams of 30 candidates imprisoned by the Constitutional Court overnight stormed the main crossroads and important capitals of the capital with posters with the image of their candidate, or banners in the colors of their parties.
At the headquarters of the political parties, parties are organized to mark the beginning of the campaign, with orchestras despite the Covid-19 pandemic. The same fervor is observed in the provinces and the most remote villages in the country where the 359 legislative candidates will try to convince their constituents.
In accordance with the election law that 17 ministers and several dozen officials resigned to start the race. For peaceful elections, a joint ECOWAS-African Union mission stopped in Niamey where a climate of mistrust prevails between these competing party elections. The mission encourages them to engage in dialogue and encourages presidential candidates to draft and sign a code of conduct before, during and after the current election process.
