In the Central African Republic, more than 1.84 million people are registered on the preliminary electoral rolls, not including the voters in the north-west of the country who will be added. These lists have been published nationwide since the middle of last week, according to the National Election Authority. ANE therefore believes that the election process is going as planned. The opposition steps up to the plate by condemning an electoral register that lacks “credibility and integrity”.
The Central Africans have been crashing for five days ahead election lists posted in the centers where they were recruited, but for the coalition of the democratic opposition in this country, COD 2020, this file is “corrupt”. This coalition was now led by the former president Francois Bozizé announces that it has already approached the European Union and the Organization de la Francophonie to revise the Central African electoral register.
Its spokesman and president of the CRPS party, Nicolas Tiangaye : “We are making this request because we have evidence that thousands of birth certificates have been issued to foreigners to register on the electoral roll. And so, today, with the publication of the preliminary list, many people did not see their name on the electoral roll. So we want independent experts to be able to check the National Electoral Commission’s server to find out if this electoral register is credible. ”
The Chairman of ANE recalls that the display of these lists serves precisely to enable the correction of possible errors and anomalies contained in the file. Marie-Madeleine N’kouet Hoornaert therefore considers such a revision unnecessary: “We went everywhere in order to have a fairly inclusive electoral list. What was the problem with justifying an audit and an audit two and a half months before the election? It is not justified. “
The election process is now on track, she said. The opposition warns against “a rush that could lead to an election crisis.”
