The Burkinabè population is characterized by its youth. According to figures from the most recent census conducted at the end of 2019, 45% of the current population is under 15 years of age. The spatial distribution of the Burkinabè population also shows significant differences. More than 73% or 15,089,674 people live in rural areas. This is upwards compared to 2006 when there were only about 10 million people in the countryside.
With 14.8% of the population, the central region is the most populous in the country, unlike the south-central region which is only 3.8% of the entire population.
For the head of the Burkinabè government, public policy must focus mainly on women’s autonomy and the development of young people. The country has 51.7% women.
