Twenty-two unbearable seconds. This is the length of the video of a gang rape that is widely broadcast on Chadian social networks. We see a young woman in tears raped by two young turban men. She asks them to stop filming and be insulted.
The violent scene is filmed by an unidentified witness. Impossible to recognize an exact location or the identity of the young victim. But for Internet users, it is the video of a lawsuit that is already underway: that of the alleged rape of Meram.
The affair caused an uproar in Ndjamena, as the three alleged perpetrators, two adults and a minor, were to be the sons of high-ranking officials. A legal investigation is underway for rape and assault and battery. Prosecutor Tom Youssouf confirms that the suspects are still in Klessoum’s detention center. Their lawyer condemns a media lynching. “They are not my clients in the video,” he says.
The young victim, Meram, and her parents have not yet turned up to be heard. Sources close to the family say a memorandum of understanding has been reached between the two parties, so often in cases of rape in Chad.
