U.S. Military Engages Houthi Targets in Yemen with Warships and Aircraft

Central Command, responsible for orchestrating U.S. military actions in the chaotic Middle East arena, announced that they struck Houthi-held weapons systems, bases, and other vital essentials.

Word from the Houthi broadcasters claims that the heart of Yemen, Sanaa, felt the brunt of these hits.

On a Monday not far gone, the Houthis proudly declared they’d downed a U.S.-crafted MQ-9 Reaper drone that happened to be soaring the Yemeni skies. The U.S. military fessed up to losing one of its unmanned birds.

The previous week saw the Pentagon reporting that the Houthis had unleashed a gnarly assault on Navy vessels cruising the region. Luckily, every bit of weaponry hurled their way was intercepted.

Sanaa nearly enjoyed a peace reprieve over the last couple of years after most of the intense sparring in Yemen’s civil unrest calmed down a notch.

Beyond attacking ships on the Red Sea’s doorstep, the Houthis have also sent a slew of missiles and drones taking aim at Israel directly.

Come July, an airborne drone took a trip from Yemen and ruffled feathers in Tel Aviv, resulting in one life’s end and injuries to ten. Just the other month, the Houthis fired off several missiles at Israel, one even zeroing in on the primary airport.

Each time, Israel swiftly retaliated by targeting sites within Yemen.

This past year marked the initiation of Operation Prosperity Guardian by a coalition of the U.S., the UK, and a horde of 12 other nations, all bent on safeguarding Red Sea shipping routes from the Houthi threat.

The Houthis are linked in a network of armed outfits across the Middle East with Tehran’s blessing, rubbing elbows with groups like Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza.
