Himilo Qaran Party Opposes Term Extensions, Cautions Against Rising Conflicts Under Hassan Sheikh

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AXADLE) – Himilo Qaran, fronted by a previous Somali leader, has slammed any talk of prolonging the terms of federal and regional bosses, tossing allegations at President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud for leveraging the National Consultative Conference to fuel his own political fire.

In a hurried assembly held Thursday in Mogadishu, Himilo Qaran sat down to chew over the nation’s political climate, zeroing in on the ongoing National Consultative Council get-together in the city, which drew select federal bigwigs and regional heads.

“The party howls against any idea of stretching the state leaders’ terms, saying it’d only tick the President’s boxes,” blurted out a party notice, given the media a whirl.

Attendees, hailing from both houses of the federal parliament, found the Himilo Qaran camp apprehensive that the conference might chuck out decisions, pouring petrol on Somalia’s troubles and igniting conflict anew.

The party waved a glaring reminder of Article 120, daring the federal and regional bodies to stay true to their constitutional duty to hold separate elections.

“No added lease on power for elected bodies at any level,” declared Himilo Qaran, with former President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed steering the ship.

Additionally, the party urged President Hassan Sheikh to pack away his untoward meddling in regional matters and nudged the National Palace leaders to rally together for the greater good of Somali unity.

Himilo Qaran further called out for hard conversations around the country’s political rows and civil unrest, advocating for pulling together to beef up national defense.

This fallback lands amid brewing discontent surrounding the National Consultative Conference in Mogadishu, where only the federal echelon and leaders from four regions put their cards on the table.

Cocky Puntland, an influential regional player, decided to give the meeting a miss over tussles with the federal body.

At the same time, Southwest State, despite President Abdiasis Laftagareen showing face, finds itself in an ongoing squabble with Hassan Sheikh’s team.
