Five Lives Lost in Mogadishu Following Roadside Bomb Explosions, Authorities Report

Explosions in the Somali capital claimed five lives and left eight injured

MOGADISHU, Somalia — Explosions on the streets of Mogadishu claimed the lives of five individuals and wounded eight others Saturday, as confirmed by a municipal official.

An explosive device had been secretly stationed in a busy area where a group of young folks had gathered to snap photos, remarked Abdullahi Sheikh Abdirahman, the district commissioner of Mogadishu’s Kahda neighborhood.

“I witnessed several bodies strewn across the road moments after the initial explosion. As rescuers rushed in to help, a second blast erupted, worsening the casualties,” Abdisamad Osman, an eyewitness, informed The Associated Press.

No faction stepped forward to claim responsibility for Saturday’s attack immediately. Nevertheless, the terrorist organization al-Shabab, which is at odds with Somalia’s central government, often orchestrates these kinds of brutal strikes.

This heinous act follows just weeks after another tragic explosion at a beach, resulting in over 30 deaths and more than 60 injuries. That incident, one of the most horrific in recent memory, has stoked fears about the recent surge in violent episodes in Mogadishu.
