Nairobi County Official Cracks Down on Somali Lounge Following Noise Complaints

NAIROBI, Kenya (AX) — In the heart of Nairobi on Saturday evening, Geoffrey Mosiria, the county’s Chief Officer for Environment, swooped down on the Somali-owned Fay Bistrow lounge situated in Kilimani. This operation was a response to continuous clamor from the locals about escalated noise levels. It’s all part of Nairobi’s ongoing hustle to shush the city’s residential zones, and the episode sure stirred the pot.

Despite several advisories given to the nightclub’s management to dial back on the decibels, they seemed to turn a deaf ear. So, Mosiria marched up to the club past midnight, capturing his face-off with them on video. “The neighbors couldn’t catch a decent night’s sleep, so I decided to gauge the racket firsthand,” Mosiria remarked as he faced the club’s honchos. The staff, however, were no pushovers; they snubbed his plea to crank down the noise, which nudged Mosiria to call in the big guns by reaching out to the owner, Luqman.

“We’ve got legal cards to play against y’all, and expect your manager in court this Tuesday, October 20,” Mosiria informed Luqman over the phone, with the whole exchange being caught on tape.

The incident blew up on the internet like wildfire. Ex-Senator Billow Kerrow from Mandera was quick to jump on the bandwagon, labeling the lounge’s brazenness as “shameless defiance”. He rallied for intervention by both county and national overseers. “What gall, to brush off a city official—is this how we roll? NEMA and the City Council are dropping the ball enforcing the rules,” Kerrow vented online.

The public’s two cents landed fast and hard, mostly showing Mosiria some love. An influencer named Mohammed Hersi threw his weight behind Mosiria, urging locals to voice out against noise rackets. “Folks next door oughta speak up. Time to stop being couch potatoes and shove back,” he declared.

The move against Fay Bistrow marks a broader crusade by Nairobi County to tackle noise issues, especially in buzzing areas like Kilimani. Just a month back, the county put the kibosh on Quiver Steakhouse Club nearby for the same cacophonous crimes.
