Musk Critiques Trump’s Massive Funding Package Just Days After His Departure
Elon Musk has taken a firm stance against US President Donald Trump’s proposed spending bill, labeling it a “disgusting abomination” as tensions between the two figures come to the forefront following Musk’s departure from the White House.

Last week, Musk exited his position as an official government employee, a role in which he was previously commended by Trump for initiating federal spending cuts. Yet, cracks in their relationship have begun to show.
In a pointed tweet, Musk declared, “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination.” His words serve as a stark critique of the spending plans, marking a significant escalation in his rhetoric. He continued with a somber warning, stating, “Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong.”
Interestingly, Musk’s earlier criticisms had been more subdued. The former head of Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) had previously expressed concerns that the bill would undermine his crusade for cost-cutting, emphasizing that it could lead to “crushingly unsustainable debt” for citizens.
This latest exchange highlights a growing rift between Musk and the Trump administration. Despite Musk’s substantial $300 million donation to Trump’s campaign, he has recently voiced his frustrations more openly. In response to Musk’s tweet, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt remarked, “The president already knows where Elon Musk stood on this bill; it doesn’t change his opinion. This is one big, beautiful bill, and he’s sticking to it.”
As Musk exited his role as Trump’s chief cost-cutter, their previously harmonious relationship seemed to be unraveling. Trump had previously praised Musk’s “incredible service,” even asserting that Musk was “really not leaving” during their tumultuous four-month collaboration, which included Musk overseeing significant job cuts and drastic reductions in foreign aid.
While the two were once inseparable, frequently seen together on Air Force One and at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, the ambitions of the DOGE initiative have ultimately fallen short of expectations. Musk had aimed to save $2 trillion, yet the DOGE website claims only about $175 billion has been saved—approximately 8% of the original goal. However, this figure has come under scrutiny. The independent “Musk Watch DOGE Tracker” puts the verified total at merely $16 billion, translating to less than 1% of the ambitious target.
With Tesla shareholders growing increasingly vocal, urging Musk to return to manage slumping sales amidst protests and SpaceX’s recent rocket failures, the relationship between these two high-profile figures seems to reach a critical juncture.
“Strategic insights often reveal more than just numbers; they expose the pulse of leadership and priorities.”
