Prime Minister Hamdok condemns the repression

Sudanese Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok has strongly condemned the crackdown, which left two dead on Tuesday (May 11th) during a rally in Khartoum and demanded that justice be served on the victims. Thousands of people gathered in the capital to celebrate the “sitting” massacre that stood in front of the army headquarters during the 2019 revolution.

As the sun rose on Tuesday, thousands of protesters on the avenue converged along the army headquarters in Khartoum, despite blockades by security forces. It was where already in 2019 they gathered en masse to demand the resignation of former President Omar al-Bashir. And that was where on May 200, 2019, almost 200 of them had been killed by security forces after receiving the order to evacuate the square.

In the evening, their speakers condemned the unpunished responsibility of General Hemeti, number two of the transition, in this massacre, before the situation deteriorated at the time of the spread.

Two dead and 37 injured

Immediately after the hospital care counted two gunshot deaths and 37 wounded, Abdalla Hamdok publicly expressed his anger. In a violent statement, he spoke of a “crime” committed against “peaceful protesters” that is “neither tolerated nor ignored”.

He immediately called for an emergency meeting for his interior and defense ministers, the intelligence service and the governor. The army then lamented overnight “unfortunate events” and promised to bring to justice anyone who is proven.
