Tunisian tennis woman Ons Jabeur managed to turn the situation around to beat Spain’s Garbine Muguruza in three rounds of the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon tournament. She is the first Arab woman to reach the knockout stages of the Grand Slam tournament. Ons Jabeur shows his progress and does not intend to stop there.
Two weeks after winning the first title of his career in Birmingham, Our Jabeur signed another big show on Friday, July 2 at Wimbledon. Against the Spanish Garbine Muguruza, with the titles in Paris (2016) and Wimbledon (2017), Tunisia fought in almost 2:30 to win in three sets (5-7, 6-3, 6-2) and qualify for the knockout stages of the London Grand Slam. She is the first Arab tennis woman to reach such a level.
In the previous round, World No. 24 had eliminated American Venus Williams, five times with the title of the British lawn (2000, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2008).
“I’ve received a lot of messages and I know a lot of people are watching me, especially young people. I hope I can inspire them and play with them on the track one day. With that said, I do not want to stop there. This is not the end of the tournament , “said Made who hopes that “more Arab players will believe in their dream and join the circle” soon.
Venus Williams, his victim in the second round, supported this admonition. “We will see a whole generation of women from North Africa land on the tennis court. And it is her (Ons Jabeur, editor’s note) we must,” she said.
In the next round, Monday 5 July, Ons Jabeur will face world number 9, the Polish Iga Swiatek, with the title of Roland-Garros in October 2020.
