Dr. Alex Dzabana, head of civil society in Congo, president of the M22 association, was allegedly kidnapped this morning outside his home in Brazzaville. His relatives are awaiting news.

Joe Washington Ebina, another civil society figure in Congo-Brazzaville, recounts the events: “We were informed that around 1 p.m. 8 was a vehicle that stood in front of his home for several hours. And then Dr. Alex was on his way home – after making his rounds in that neighborhood – he was kidnapped by individuals who took him by the hand. They attacked him and lifted him up, put him in the vehicle and led him in an unknown direction. ”

According to Joe Washington Ebina, Dr. Alex Dzabana has been noticing suspicious presence in front of his home for some time: “It has been several weeks since he informed us that there were people in front of his home. So regularly he had received this kind of threat, but we did not think it was going to happen. So we are very surprised and we are waiting to find out where it is now. ”

A kidnapping in the middle of an election period

“He is a regular defender human rights in Congowho defends democracy … So he does not have his tongue in his pocket. It is his whole life that is disturbing, and which has always disturbed, especially knowing that we are in an election period, declares the civil society affected by this kidnapping. Barely a month ago, a lawyer was also kidnapped in this way. Today he is a human rights defender. We are very concerned about the situation and where he may be at the moment ”.
