Cédric Evans is passionate about fashion. He selects and harmonizes different Kente and silk fabrics to create a bow tie. A knot made from 90% Kente, made by partner craftsmen in Ghana and 10% silk, from Italy. This designer designs each range in limited quantities to ensure that there is no overproduction.

“I love to create, to take a picture of everything I see on the street, to be inspired by people, colors, dishes, countries. I am a very curious person, I have always created, it is only natural to create daily, which represents an important place “, reveals Cédric Evans, founder of the brand KenteMust.

I wanted to keep the name of the fabric, then I wanted to associate it with “must have”. For me, it was necessary to create a portmanteau word, KenteMust, to express this image.

Cédric Evans was born in the Paris region. Originally from Ghana, he was immersed in the culture of Kente. He studied linguistics, tried his hand at music and then worked for the bank for eight years. In 2018, he launched KenteMust and offered a fly in Kente and silk.

Kente back in the spotlight

Behind every fabric there is a story and every color has a meaning. Strong symbol associations that remember moments of joy.

“Kent is a traditional fabric worn by the kings of the Ashantid people of Ghana. It is also worn in West Africa. I took a trip in 2018 to Ghana. I had made several trips there before, but it was 2018 that I was struck by the color and patterns. that this fabric offers.I associated it with silk which is another noble product to create an exceptional product. It is something very elegant. It is also my identity that I want to transcribe: French but also Ghanaian. The fabrics we use are more modern and less traditional than the fabrics worn by the three Ashanti from Ghana, who have the colors yellow, red, with large patterns, selected patterns that are thinner, which can be associated with a little bit like bow tie, more refined patterns. “

The goal of this young creator is to make Kente more famous.

“I think in England and Nigeria, where there is a strong community in West Africa and Ghana, we know about this fabric. The fabric must be known in Europe and more here in France.”concludes the creator of KenteMust.
