Ukraine to Unveil ‘Plan for Victory’ at Ramstein Conference

On October 12, Ukraine plans to unveil its “victory roadmap” during a key allies’ meeting at Ramstein, Germany, announced President Volodymyr Zelensky in a recent Telegram post.

“We’re set to present a victory roadmap, outlining clear, tangible steps toward a just conclusion of the conflict,” he stated emphatically.

Having stood firm against an invasion from Russia for nearly a thousand days, Ukraine has hinted at a strategic approach to quell the ongoing hostilities in recent months.

While the finer points of this proposal remain under wraps, President Zelensky previously shared its essence with U.S. President Joe Biden, along with both leading candidates in the upcoming U.S. presidential election, during his visit to Washington last month.

However, according to anonymous sources cited by the Wall Street Journal, this plan appears to be little more than a reconfigured plea for additional arms and easing restrictions on the deployment of long-range missiles, lacking a thorough strategy for the conflict.

In remarks made yesterday, President Zelensky reported his visit to the northern Sumy region, which served as a launchpad for Ukraine’s significant foray into the adjacent Russian territory of Kursk.

Close to two months into this unforeseen offensive, Ukrainian forces have gained control over considerable sections of the Russian border; yet, the momentum has waned, and Russian troops have begun to regroup and counterattack.

“Understanding the Kursk operation’s importance is essential,” Mr. Zelensky asserted. “It’s a strategic move that enhances our partners’ motivation to stand with Ukraine, to be more decisive, and to ramp up pressure on Russia.”

During a visit with General Oleksandr Syrskyi, his foremost military commander, to the 82nd Air Assault Brigade, he expressed his gratitude to the troops for their steadfast defense of Ukraine’s sovereignty.

He elaborated on the incursion, which, according to Ukrainian authorities, has effectively brought the battle to the heart of Russia, proclaiming, “This operation has been pivotal in securing additional military support from our Western allies.”

“Our goal is to inspire the global community and demonstrate that Ukrainians can rise above the enemy,” he conveyed passionately to the soldiers.

Despite the initial wave of success, the Kursk offensive has yet to substantially disrupt Russian military efforts in eastern Ukraine.

On Wednesday, the Ukrainian forces reported a strategic withdrawal from the hilltop town of Vuhledar to avoid potential encirclement by advancing Russian troops, who are now perilously close to the vital transportation hub of Pokrovsk, just 7 kilometers away.

Mr. Zelensky also mentioned that he had convened a meeting with military leaders to address key issues such as frontline developments, air defense strategies, and the precarious energy situation in Sumy. Russia’s relentless assaults on electrical infrastructure have led to widespread power outages in the region.

In a separate update on social media, Colonel Syrskyi detailed his recent discussions on military and cyber cooperation with General Christopher Cavoli, the commander of U.S. European Command, and General Timothy Haugh, the head of U.S. Cyber Command.

Col Syrskyi emphasized the crucial need for bolstering cyber collaboration, stating, “It’s imperative that we explore every avenue available to us to gain an edge over the enemy, both on the battlefield and in the realm of cyberspace.”

This challenging context underscores Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to strategize effectively while facing multifaceted threats and navigating complex geopolitical landscapes.
