In a heart-wrenching statement, Kootenai County Sheriff Robert Norris described the fire as intentionally set, labeling the event an “ambush.” This senseless act prompted the deployment of approximately 300 law enforcement officers to the scene as the situation unfolded.

The fallen firefighters were honored as Frank Harwood, 42, and John Morrison, 52, both esteemed veterans of the Kootenai County Fire Department. Their commitment to serving the community speaks volumes about their dedication and courage.

Additionally, the injured firefighter, 47-year-old Dave Tysdal, has bravely undergone two surgeries in the past 24 hours, as confirmed by Coeur d’Alene Fire Chief Tom Greif. “We are holding onto hope for his recovery and supporting his family through this challenging time,” Greif emphasized.

This tragic incident serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by those who serve and protect us. “They are heroes in every sense of the word,” added Sheriff Norris, highlighting the bravery of first responders.

As our community reflects on this loss, let us come together to support the families and colleagues affected by this heartbreaking event.
