Twitter is reacting to potential European Super League

Rumors that clubs are breaking up and forming a European Super League often come up.

The only difference this time is that it looks like it could actually happen. The Premier League’s big six – which incredibly still includes Arsenal and Tottenham – as well as Serie A and La Liga and the big three respectively are teams that are being spied on for the revolutionary step, but the plans have not gone well.

Reports circulating about plans that will send shockwaves through European football?

– 90min (@ 90min_Football) April 18, 2021

The Premier League, the British government and UEFA are among those who have released statements in opposition to an outrageous competition, but the loudest reception of all came from social media.

The reasons for people’s outrage varied. One of the most common trends, however, was that people were appalled that the clubs in north London had the courage to classify themselves as one of the continent’s elite.

Shocked and stunned by this new Super League of the “biggest and best” teams in Europe. How the hell has Arsenal managed to beat us?

The rest of the super league to Arsenal and Spurs. # Superleague https://t.co/tVg0qwN1no

A “closed” European Super League, with the same team beating Spurs & Arsenal, will be very boring very quickly.

– Ben Jacobs (@JacobsBen) April 18, 2021

What I understand least about the European Super League is why Spurs would be in there. Two league cups since ’91 and only six UCL / European Cup seasons in their history. How’s that “Super League” pedigree?

For once, however, the news was not used solely to pamper Arsenal and Spurs. In addition to japery, others launched passionate critiques of the concept.

Some even went so far as to claim that the breakaway league would prevent them from supporting their teams.

It is no surprise that this proposed franchise arrives when Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs & Arsenal are 5th, 6th, 7th and 9th in the EPL and Juventus stick to 4th in Serie A. A franchise competition with Invitation alone would eliminate this problem for these club owners.

Gary Neville has made it clear how he feels about the proposed European Super League! ? pic.twitter.com/WTLmWGmiq6

If Arsenal joins a breakthrough European Super League, it’s pretty much done for me.

I always want them to manage of course, but the cord will only be cut.

I will still watch football, I never love someone like Arsenal, but I support a local team.

– James Seymour (@ JSey1) April 18, 2021

Spurs have given me some of the moments and friendships in my life. I would not change the last 30+ roller coaster years for anything. But if these European Super League plans continue, and Spurs remain a part of them, I will be ready for good. Feeling sick to my stomach today

– Emma Storey (@ emmastorey81) April 18, 2021

Can not believe I see fans of the traditional top 6 who support the idea of a super league. If Fosun announced that they were going to do that kind of thing, I would be done with wolves

– cav (@WhoIsCav) April 18, 2021

If we join the super league, I’m done with football, I can not lie. Would ruin absolutely everything

If the Super League continues, my season ticket is over.

– SaeedTV (@SaeedTV_) April 18, 2021

Honestly, if the Super League continues then it will be the last nail in the coffin for football as we know it, I do not think I am alone in saying that if Arsenal go into it and no longer play in the Premier League (as suggested ) I’m done!

– MR DT (@MrDtAFC) April 18, 2021

The man of the match for the morally upset crew was Sky Sports speculator Gary Neville.

After Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Burnley – a fixture that would be criminally missing from a so-called super league – Neville launched a long critique of the concept.

People liked it – a lot – even though it seemed as if he thought that the six Premier League clubs could abandon their domestic division completely, when in reality the Super League would run together with the league, just like the Champions League.

“This rejects your own clubs.” ? @ GNev2 strikes at the six clubs linked to a Super League break and says they should be “severely punished” by the Premier League and English governing bodies. pic.twitter.com/Sy0gM6qdgm

Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Mica Richards, class wonderful to hear from people who really love the sport, and not just the people whose greed makes them blind. #UTV. Respect ?.

When Gary Neville is in his critical bag, he’s the best expert out here.

It remains to be seen what will happen, but an announcement is expected immediately.
