Tottenham transfer news: Romero accepts personal terms
Tottenham have agreed personal terms with Atalanta defender Cristian Romero, but they have not yet made a breakthrough in negotiations with the Serie A kit.
Newly appointed Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo has identified the central defense as an area he is likely to strengthen, and it has been rumored that Davinson’s Sanchez with mega-money could be moved on to cater for a new face.
Romero has emerged as one of Tottenham’s top goals – keeping newly-appointed manager Fabio Paratici extremely busy during his first weeks on the job – and Argentine news agency TyC Sports claims an offer of € 40 million (£ 34.1 million) plus £ 10 million additional euros have now been submitted.
Atalanta’s response to the alleged offer is still unknown, but Fabrizio Romano has added that personal terms already agree with the 23-year-old. A five-year deal that runs until 2026 implies that it has been completed, which probably includes an increase in Romero.
The Argentine defender is technically still a Juventus player and has only gone to Atalanta temporarily. But his two-year loan move included the possibility for La Dea to make the deal permanent at any time for a fixed fee believed to be € 16 million (£ 13.8 million).
With Atalanta almost certainly preparing to trigger the said clause, they could well sign the defender and sell him the same day – not to mention the fact that they will make a big profit on it.
Spurs are also signing another Atalanta player after receiving a loan deal for goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini. The Italian is expected to challenge Hugo Lloris for the place as start number one, which threatens the World Cup winner’s decade-long strangulation of the position.
Progress is also being made with a deal for the young Spanish prospect Bryan Gil. It is rumored that Tottenham will pay Sevilla 25 million euros (21.7 million pounds) plus supplements for the 20-year-old, which also sends Erik Lamela in the other direction.
Further relocations are expected from Tottenham’s squad in the coming weeks, including French defender Cameron Carter-Vickers – who 90min understands is of interest to Newcastle and Celtic.
