Tottenham open talks for Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu

Tottenham are in talks with Bologna over the potential signing of Japan’s international Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The 22-year-old, who can play as a center-back or right-back, would fill two important areas where Spurs are in great need of strengthening this summer.

The email writes that Tomiyasu represents a defender much cheaper than some of their other main transfer targets, including Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey.

While Lamptey would cost more than £ 35 million, Tomiyasu is expected to be available for £ 15 million, much more in line with Spurs’ usual transfer strategy. Serge Aurier is expected to leave the club in this window, and any further depth in the right back would not go wrong.

Tottenham have already been heavily linked with several defenders in this window, including Lyon Joachim Andersen, who said 90 minutes later that he would like to return to the Premier League after playing in it with Fulham last season.

The highly ranked Sevilla defender Jules Kounde is also of interest to Spurs, but many bigger clubs are in front of them in the queue to sign the French international, including Real Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea.

While Spurs want to step up in the transfer market, they are still without a head coach more than two months after Jose Mourinho was fired.

Ryan Mason originally replaced him temporarily and since then a number of candidates have come close to taking the job permanently. Reports in England suggested that Mauricio Pochettino was desperate to return to the club, while those in France said he was committed to Paris Saint-Germain.

Former Chelsea and Inter boss Antonio Conte was close to taking the job, as were Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso, but Spurs could not cover any deal. Ex-Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo is now the favorite to take the hot spot, but chairman Daniel Levy is said to have doubts about his style of play.
