Thomas Frank on why the resilient David Raya “massively deserves” to be known as to Spain

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has praised David Raya’s mentality after the goalkeeper acquired his first name to the Spanish nationwide group.

The 26-year-old has not performed for La Furia Roja at any stage earlier than and is a comparatively unknown in his house nation after going to England as a 17-year-old to signal for Blackburn Rovers.

Raya joins Brighton’s Robert Sanchez and Athletic Club’s Unai Simon as goalkeepers in Luis Enrique’s squad for the March internationals, particularly when he joins the line-up as an alternative of Manchester United’s trustworthy David de Gea.

Asked how a lot Raya deserved the decision, Frank replied: “I’m a bit biased after all, however huge.

“I feel David, his achievements once we had been within the championship, I feel the highest three the 12 months we misplaced the playoffs [2019/2020]. “

With the 2020 play-off final in the championship draw to 0-0 in extra time, Raya made a critical mistake that allowed Fulham’s Joe Bryan to score the opening goal in what turned out to be a 2-1 loss for Brentford.

But Frank insisted that Raya’s achievements since that show prove that he has a top mentality that goes hand in hand with his distinctive distribution.

“Obviously he was closely concerned in the primary purpose of the playoffs. It was devastating for him,” Frank continued.

“I clearly bear in mind going to him proper after or the day after and saying, ‘You simply must be braver, have a fair larger place subsequent 12 months, and do higher.’

“And then we came to the Premier League, he performs incredibly well the first eight games, and then he got another slap in the face with a big injury.

“He’s get back stronger on each events. I feel the mentality everyone knows, or the psychological state of the recreation, the mindset is so essential, so it is one factor you recognize you are simply constructing stronger together with your adversity. You can’t have a powerful mentality if you will have no setbacks.

“I know that setbacks are different from many people, but his clear and obvious abilities when it comes to playing with his feet, high positions, very aggressive when it comes to his positioning and going for crosses, he definitely deserves this.”

Asked if this name was a shock provided that De Gea jumped out of the Spanish squad, Frank added: “I think [Raya] was on the provisional [Spain squad] list just before their injury at the latest. He did not get [full] dialing, in fact.

“But he has been on the radar of the Spanish league, I’m glad to see him there. I feel it positively reveals a variety of credit score to him as a result of there are a variety of good goalkeepers for Spain.”
