The Tottenham line-up that will start against Southampton

Following the outrageous controversial announcement and the subsequent collapse of the proposed Super League, Tottenham will return to matters on the pitch on Wednesday night when they host Southampton.

It will be Ryan Mason’s first match as interim coach following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho after Spurs’ 2-2 draw at Everton last time. Tottenham have only picked up a victory in their last six Premier League matches, losing three of these and are a not so super seventh in the table, five points from the top four.

The Saints have also struggled in recent weeks. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men have won just two league games in their previous ten, making seven losses in that time.

So, let’s take a look at how Spurs will line up for this one.

Hugo Lloris (GK) – Have not missed a minute of Premier League football this promotion, keep ten clean sheets in the process.

Serge Aurier (RB) – Matt Doherty will probably return from injury but Aurier could get the nod in front of him, despite some dubious performances in the last.

Toby Alderweireld (CB) – Spurs have won four of the last six league games Alderweireld has played. Relevant? Maybe not but given how poor they have been recently, it gives some hope. Joe Rodon (CB) – Has shown his quality and how mature he can be in recent weeks and deserves to continue in the heart of the Spurs back line. Sergio Reguilon (LB) – Has been the first choice in the left back for most of the campaign and, with Ben Davies still lined up, is guaranteed to start against Southampton.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (CM) – A real warrior in the middle of the field and gives the piece that can help him overcome his previous side on Wednesday.

Harry Winks (CM) – Something frozen out of Mourinho but with a new boss it could get more chances on the pitch. With a league cup final around the corner, it may also be time to rotate and give lash players a chance.Dele Alli (AM) – Have only started two league matches this campaign but will probably be another to get much more opportunities under a new regime. Has undoubted quality and can really influence the procedures with their creativity.

Gareth Bale (RW) – Has only ten minutes of action under his belt during the last four league matches, but should have the chance to build on his seven goal mixes in 14 Premier League matches so far.

Heung-min Son (ST) – Harry Kane’s absence leaves a big gap in the Spurs side, but Son can come in instead of Carols Vinicius to give an extra bit of pace and movement upwards.

Lucas Moura (LW) – His versatility in advanced areas makes him a useful player over the front three or four and this time he can start on the left lane when Son moves centrally.
