The club confirms the Jadon Sancho agreement

Manchester United have confirmed they have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of English striker Jadon Sancho.

Unofficial news broke the agreement reached on Wednesday night – the transfer was over two years, with 90 minutes first reporting United’s intention to sign the player in September 2019 – and Dortmund confirmed that they had agreed to sell Sancho for 85 million euros on Thursday morning .

During a press conference, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said: “We have reached a general agreement with Manchester United on the transfer of Jadon Sancho, pending completion, as there are still some formalities to be agreed and the medical check-up is to be completed.

“It was Jadon’s express wish to change, we would have liked to keep him. We are not happy with the money but sad that he is leaving.”

United themselves confirmed the news in an official statement on the website on Thursday afternoon.

The statement reads: “Manchester United are very pleased to announce that they have in principle reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund on the transfer of Jadon Sancho.

“The signing is subject to contract terms and a drug that will be completed after Jadon’s participation in the UEFA European Championships.”

United had originally drawn up plans as early as 2019 to sign Sancho last summer, although the global pandemic and some fuzzy negotiation rate paid off for his 2020 arrival.

However, United always kept their interest in the player and Sancho had for some time made it clear that it was a move he was open to. Other clubs were in the picture on occasion but United and Sancho’s commitment to each other did not diminish.

It is expected that Sancho will be handed the jersey number 7, which is currently held by Edinson Cavani, but this has not yet been confirmed.

Sancho will end a medical treatment and officially go to United after England’s participation in the European Championships, with international and soon to be teammate Marcus Rashford happy that the news is finally out.

United will pay five equal installments over five seasons to Borussia Dortmund from the agreed fee of 73 million pounds and will then focus their attention on getting Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.
