Ryan Mason hopes that the debut victory can reunite Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur interim manager Ryan Mason has said he hopes Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Southampton can bring the club back and keep them focused until the end of the season.
After a bitterly disappointing first half, the Spurs planned things on the hour mark through an excellent curling effort from Gareth Bale, and they snatched all three points when Son Heung-min fired from the penalty spot in injury time.

It was hardly a vintage performance from Spurs, but Mason was simply happy to come out with a victory to restore some positivity to the club after a tumultuous couple of days that saw Jose Mourinho fired and fans protesting against chairman Daniel Levy for his involvement in Super League.
“First of all, the feeling is a huge relief,” he told Sky Sports News. “It has been a whirlwind the last two or three days, but thankfully we got the victory and most importantly I felt that the second half was outstanding.
“The performance, the commitment, the energy was brilliant because I thought it was very difficult in the first half.
“It was pretty tough to get out and they were very good. They created some chances. Hugo (Lloris) drew two world-class saves for us but I thought when the game continued we got control of it and I thought there was only one team that would win the match. “

Mason was also asked about the events of recent days, including the protests and the Super League debacle, but he was simply anxious to move on and start focusing on Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.
“First of all, I can not have an opinion [on the protests] because I was not aware of it, we did not see it from the coach so I can not comment on it, he said.
“But the most important thing is to create a good energy around the place. Obviously when you win matches it helps, but even more important is that the performance in the second half is where we want it to be. Thankfully we have won and we can look forward against tomorrow now.

“I’m going to be honest, I said it all the time, I really can not have an opinion on it, for the last 48 hours I’m sure you can respect the fact that my mind, my energy has been fully involved in this. the game, in preparation for this game.
“And in the same way now that the game is over I will enjoy it for a few moments, but my energy is on training tomorrow and preparing the team for the weekend. I will be honest, the external noise I have closed completely and my full focus is on preparing the player group to win football matches. “
