Ryan Giggs is charged with two counts of assault by police

Wales boss Ryan Giggs has been accused of two assaults and a number of “compulsive and controlling behavior” from an incident in November 2020.

A statement from Graater Manchester Police confirmed that the former Manchester United winger will be held accountable for causing actual bodily harm to a 30-year-old woman and for “ordinary assault” on a 20-year-old woman. The incidents are alleged to have taken place on the evening of November 1.

Giggs has been credited and will appear in court on April 28.

While the trial is going on, the Welsh FA has confirmed that chief of security Robert Page will remain in charge of Euro 2020.

Ryan Giggs accused:

CPS: “We have authorized Greater Manchester Police to charge Ryan Giggs with conduct that was controlling or coercive and assault that caused actual bodily harm.”

A statement from the Crown Prosecutor’s Office read: “We have authorized the Manchester police to charge Ryan Giggs with conduct that was controlling or coercive and assault that caused actual bodily harm.

“An accusation of assault by beating in connection with a second woman has also been approved. Mr Giggs will appear in Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 28 April.

“CPS made the decision to charge Mr Giggs after reviewing documentation from Greater Manchester Police. Criminal proceedings are active and nothing should be published that could jeopardize the defendant’s right to a fair trial. ”

A statement from Greater Manchester Police added: “Ryan Giggs has been charged with causing bodily harm to a woman in her 30s and common assault on a woman in her 20s. Both counts relate to an incident on the evening of Sunday, November 1, 2020.

“Giggs has also been charged with a number of coercive and controlling behaviors between December 2017 and November 2020. He has been indicted and will appear in Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, April 28, 2021.”

News of Gigg’s initial arrest was reported back in November and he was suspended for Wales Nations League matches with Ireland and Finland. With the accusations waiting, the head of security Robert Page was responsible for their first World Cup qualifier last month.
