Despite his historic tally of 29 appearances and 14 goals in the Euros, Ronaldo has yet to net this season.
After a tearful reaction to a blocked penalty by Jan Oblak during extra time, Ronaldo redeemed himself by converting a shot in their round-16 penalty shootout against Slovenia.
Skeptics again questioned his capacity to contribute substantially under Roberto Martinez’s leadership, especially with a matchup against France looming.
Nonetheless, Brown, after sharing six seasons with Ronaldo at Manchester United, stands firm that Ronaldo’s resilient psyche will silence his critics in Germany.
“In terms of mentality, he’s unrivaled,” claimed Brown at the Adidas football hub in Berlin, courtesy of Stats Perform.
“The missed penalty surely irked him, yet many speculated he might not even play,” he continued. “I staunchly believe he still has the chops to excel. Despite not scoring, he remains a consummate team player, a past champion eager to excel and aid his squad.”
While Ronaldo boasts remarkable achievements, his current form in Euro 2024 has been less stellar, adding some not-so-flattering stats to his portfolio.
Ronaldo now leads as the tournament’s most significant expected goals (xG) underachiever, failing to score from opportunities totaling 2.75 xG and landing nine shots on goal, tying with Germany’s Kai Havertz.
Additionally, he has unleashed more shots than any competitor in UEFA’s premier international event, topping the next player by five, while only Havertz surpasses him in xG, tallying 3.6 against Ronaldo’s 2.75.
