Real Madrid have confirmed that midfielder Federico Valverde has tested positive for COVID-19.

Los Blancos recently announced that the 22-year-old was self-isolating after being in close contact with someone who later tested positive for coronavirus and it has now been revealed that he has also suffered from the disease.

In a statement released on the club’s official website, they offered a bit in the way of an update of the player or how long he would be forced to self-isolate, only that a positive test had been returned.
“Real Madrid informs that our player, Fede Valverde, has tested positive in the COVID-19 test that was conducted today,” the statement read.
Valverde has been in and out of Real start XI this season and has picked up a number of injuries that have limited his time in the match day squad.
However, he has proven to be a key member on Zinedine Zidane’s side when he is in shape and has plugged in a lot of gaps when the Real boss seems to be handling his squad while fighting for cutlery both at home and in Europe.

Valverde started at right-back against Liverpool in the second round of Real’s Champions League quarter-final at Anfield earlier this month, and he played his part well as Los Blancos secured a 0-0 draw to take them through the last four races after their 3-1 win. victory at home.
Uruguay’s international also started from a position to the right of Zidane’s midfield in his decisive clash with Barcelona just under two weeks ago, when Real strengthened their attempt to regain their La Liga title with a 2-1 victory in El Clasico.
It is unclear how long Valverde will be forced to isolate themselves, but Zidane can ill afford to lose more players with important league and Champions League matches on the horizon.
