Newcastle releases new 2021/22 home jersey

Newcastle United have launched their new home jersey 2021/22, which is the first to be made by the British sportswear brand Castore after an 11-year partnership with Puma.

The design of the new shirt is especially inspired by that worn by Kevin Keegan’s great “entertainer” in the mid-1990s, with a star-studded Magpies side as second in the Premier League two seasons in a row.

Wide black and white stripes are complemented by a white collar, as in the 90s, with a long strip with white buttons. The gaming company Fun88 remains a sponsor for a fifth season in a row.

To go with the retro look, Castore has loaded the new kit with technology and innovation and designed it to be “light, highly breathable and moisture-repellent”. It is also made of high stretch fabric, which provides better movement and comfort.

“I’m a big fan of the new home kit. The players have been really impressed with what they have seen so far, the club’s captain Jamaal Lascelles told NUFC.co.uk.

“It is obvious that a lot has gone into the technical side as well, so that the match and training kit is functional and benefits the players on the pitch. We look forward to going out in it during the season and seeing our fans in their jerseys inside the arena again. ”

Newcastle improved marginally to 12th in the Premier League last season under Steve Bruce and will open their 2021/22 campaign against West Ham at St James’ Park on 15 August.

Before that, however, Bruce and his team have a mini-season tour of nearby Yorkshire. The squad will be split for two friendly matches against York and Harrogate, both on 18 July, before further friendly matches against Doncaster and Rotherham on 23 July and 27 July respectively.

The Magpies will move a little further to face Burton on July 30, with a final preparation for the season at home for the recently promoted Premier League side Norwich on August 7.
