New Roma boss defends Premier League record
Jose Mourinho has moved to defend his Premier League record after being asked about his recent performances in England during his unveiling as Roma’s new manager.
The Portuguese tactician is one of the most decorated managers ever to adorn the Premier League, having won three English crowns over two different spells with Chelsea.
Despite his glittering spells with the Blues, the 58-year-old failed to win the league title in both of his most recent managerial positions in England – after taking over Manchester United and Tottenham – Mourinho still insists he has been a success in every Premier League club he has taken charge of.
“At my last three clubs, I won the Premier League with Chelsea, I won three cups with Manchester United, I made it to the League Cup final with Tottenham,” he told reporters (via Sky Sports).
“We finished twelfth the year before and then we came sixth and qualified for the Europa League. What is considered a disaster for me is something that other coaches have never achieved in their lifetime.”

Mourinho spoke at a press conference to officially reveal him as Paulo Fonseca’s successor in the Italian capital, where the former United boss spoke about the pressure that comes with being the head of a club with such passionate fans.
He added that it would take some time to evaluate his Roma squad before deciding what changes need to be made, including rumors that Granit Xhaka may be about to join Arsenal.
“There is a fantastic bond between the Roma and the city and it entails a great responsibility and I feel that, but we are not here on holiday, we are here to work,” he added. “The next challenge is always the most important, this is the next challenge so it is the most important.
“We will not change things when we are not yet aware of everything we have within the group. It is very important to get to know them.”
