The Premier League champions are getting closer to a deal for Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish, with 90 minutes recently revealed that the two clubs expect the move to take place very soon.

The English international has worn his boys club’s jersey number ten for the past four seasons – taking over from Jordan Ayew after his move to Swansea in 2017 – and with Sergio Aguero who recently left City for Barcelona, there is every chance that Grealish can take jersey number ten on his move to Pep Guardiola’s page is complete.
The only other number Grealish has been linked with in his time with Villa’s senior squad is 40 – the number he was handed over after breaking into the first team’s lineup – and although it’s available at City, it’s hard to imagine him choosing it. .
Now, at this point, you probably think it’s pretty dry that Grealish will only take the iconic number ten, but it’s not quite as simple as that.
During his senior club career, Grealish has only played for one side and it came back during the 2013/14 season when he was sent out on loan to Notts County. His time in League One saw him put on jersey number seven, while he talked about his enormous pride in getting the same number at Euro 2020 with England recently.

Depending on how passionate each player feels for each number, it may be that Sterling chooses to take jersey number ten after Aguero’s withdrawal and then release jersey number seven for Grealish.
Phil Foden can also play a role in the selection as he currently wears number 47. If he chooses to take jersey number ten, the remaining numbers available to Grealish (without specifying each number up to 100) would contain 12, 15, 18, 19, 23 and 24.
