Man Utd news: 2021/22 home kit leaked

Manchester United looks to rent the 1960s glory year and the famous George Best, Denis Law and Bobby Charlton “trinity” with their new home set 2021/22.

After months of digital mock-ups and images of blurred prototypes, leaked images of the kit worn by Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes show that this is actually the real deal, with an official launch expected to be imminent.

The red home jersey, which will be the first to be sponsored by the software company TeamViewer, has a simple and classic look. A subtle striped graphic adds to the design, but the excellent features are the boldly contrasting white round neck and thick white cuffs.

It immediately gives throwback vibes to the United kits used in the 1960s, when Matt Busby led a reborn team to league titles in 1964/65 and 1966/67, before conquering Europe in 1968 and becoming the first English club to lift the European Cup.

Best, Law and Charlton each won the Ballon d’Or in the 1960s and the “trinity” is immortalized in statue form outside the front of Old Trafford.

The biggest clue that the new kit is a direct tribute to the glorious era comes from Pogba’s gesture in one of the pictures. The Frenchman has his arm up and points to the sky to celebrate and imitates the gesture from Law in the statue, which was presented in 2010.

All three of United’s kits for the coming season have clear nods to the past. A blue and white shirt is reminiscent of the exchange strip worn between 1990 and 1992, immediately before the Premier League era, which was also recently recreated for the hand-drawn Human Race collection.

Meanwhile, a dark blue third jersey evokes memories of the away kit used during the first Premier League season 1992/93, with additional vibes from the black feature used between 1993 and 1995.

Both the away and third kits for the new season have also not yet been officially released.
