Man City will offer Raheem Sterling a new contract

Manchester City will meet wing Raheem Sterling after Euro 2020 to discuss a possible extension of his contract.

The 26-year-old has entered the last two years of his contract and has been strongly linked with a move away from the club this summer after a frustrating season, where Sterling recently admitted that he was not always happy.

Sterling lost his place in the starting line-up towards the end of the season but surprisingly got the nod for the Champions League final.

Despite the underlying tension, the Daily Mail claims that City feel calm about the situation and are ready to meet Sterling after Euro 2020 to convince him to sign a new contract.

Pep Guardiola wants to keep Sterling beyond the end of his current deal in 2023 because he believes that last season was simply a dip in the form of the Englishman, whose ten goals in 31 games were exactly half of his return in 2019/20.

Sterling has looked like the productive winger City wants him to be with England this summer. He has scored three goals in four games, including the opener in the Three Lions’ 2-0 victory over Germany in the round of 16.

He has scored 15 goals in his last 20 matches for his country, and City are convinced that Sterling can rediscover that form at club level.

However, it is not yet clear if he would be interested in signing again. He was recently appointed as part of a long list of players who would be open to leaving City if the right offer came, along with the likes of Bernardo Silva, Joao Cancelo and Riyad Mahrez.

There have even been suggestions that Sterling could be used as part of a bid for Tottenham striker Harry Kane, but the winger is not thought to be interested in taking part in such negotiations.

Sterling is now representing himself in negotiations with two lawyers after starting his own law firm, 16ninetytwo Sports Management, back in April.
