Man City could break transfer records for Jack Grealish

Manchester City are interested in securing a Premier League record deal for Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish.

Grealish has been sensational since returning to the top flight in 2019. Last season was his best so far, with the forward scoring six goals and 12 assists in 26 Premier League matches.

The interest in the England international has been great for a while with Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United who have all been linked before. Lately, City have jumped in the queue and according to The Telegraph, they are ready to break records in the Premier League to get their man. That figure is currently at £ 83.1 million, which United paid Juventus for Paul Pogba’s services back in 2016.

It is not surprising that Grealish would pay such an eye-watering transfer fee. His importance to Villa is impossible to overstate and he still has four years left to run on his contract in the West Midlands. It is worth noting that Ashley Preece from Birmingham Live has reported that the club still envisions that Grealish is central to his plans for next season. An offer of that size would, however, no doubt be difficult to reject.

Despite winning the Premier League with ease last season, it is expected to be a hectic summer at the Etihad Stadium. Raheem Sterling, Aymeric Laporte and Gabriel Jesus are among a crop of senior players who would be open to leaving due to lack of playing time.

The record’s goal scorer, Sergio Aguero, has already left and is signing a free transfer from Barcelona, and he will join the Nou Camp by young defender Eric Garcia, whose contract also expires at the end of June.

With City set to tune their squad, they want to strengthen. Grealish is one goal and Tottenham’s Harry Kane is another – although the deal looks unlikely at the time of writing.
