Joey Barton accused of assault
Joey Barton has been charged with assault after striking after a woman suffered head injuries in an incident in June 2020.
An incident occurred in a house in Kew, south-west London on June 2 and Barton was arrested that day, detained pending further investigations and subsequently charged.

Sky Sports reports that current Bristol Rovers boss Barton has been charged with assault after a woman was injured in the head from the incident.
The former Manchester City star will appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Monday as the goal continues.
A statement from the Metropolitan Police reads: “Joseph Barton, 38 (2.9.82), in Widnes, will appear in bail on Monday, July 26, at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court accused of assault.
“The charge relates to an incident that occurred at a residential building in Kew on Wednesday, June 2, where a woman suffered a head injury. The London Ambulance Service did not participate.
“A 38-year-old man was arrested on June 2, causal pending further investigations and subsequently charged.”
Barton was head of Fleetwood Town when the incident occurred, before leaving the club in January 2021 and joining Bristol Rovers a month later. His new side was moved to the fourth level of English football.

This news comes a day after Fleetwood confirmed that they have partnered with global sports streaming platform DAZN to release a documentary marking Barton’s time at the club.
The documentary called ‘The Contract’ will be released in more than 200 countries on Thursday, after Fleetwood’s journey under the former Newcastle United midfielder and their quest for promotion to the championship.
