Inter confirm resignation from Super League

Serie A giants Inter have confirmed their plan to withdraw from the Super League following general condemnation of the proposal.

12 of Europe’s biggest clubs had signed up for a closed league competition that would be in the union for those responsible, but fans around the world and players for these elite clubs have revolted and most sites have now announced their withdrawals.

All six Premier League clubs – Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham – are out and on Wednesday morning Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli accepted that the elimination plans will not be possible.

A statement from Inter reads: “FC Internazionale Milano confirms that the club is no longer part of the Super League project. We are always committed to giving fans the best football experience. Innovation and inclusion have been part of our DNA since we were founded. Our commitment with all stakeholders to improve the football industry will never change.

“Inter believes that football, like all sectors of activity, should have an interest in constantly improving its competitions in order to continue to excite fans of all ages around the world, within a framework of economic sustainability.

“With this vision, we will continue to work with institutions and all stakeholders for the future of the sport we all love.”

Atletico Madrid also announced on Wednesday morning their intention to withdraw from the Super League. While they have not yet released a statement, Inter’s city rivals AC Milan have joined the clubs who want to back out and save a bit of credibility – although we are probably past that step now.

German clubs Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund and French giants Paris Saint-Germain immediately rejected the chance to join the Super League earlier in the proceedings.
