Ilaix Moriba received the contract ultimatum

Barcelona will try to download the teenage prodigy Ilaix Moriba this summer if the youngster does not accept the contract that the club has presented.

Moriba exploded on the first team stage towards the end of last season and scored points or help in each of the first three matches in La Liga and finished a total of 18 times for the first team.

He made his mark and within a few weeks of his arrival he was tipped for a huge move to Manchester United which ultimately failed. However, if the Red Devils are still interested, their chance may come soon.

Moriba has signed a contract in 2022 and reports since June have suggested that he play hardball over a new deal. RAC1 then claimed that the teenager’s representatives have shown little sympathy for the club’s desperate financial situation and put up a list of demands that Barca has considered “completely unacceptable”.

In an update of the story, the Spanish radio station Gerard Romero has now claimed that the club has responded with an alternative offer.

As it stands, the player must accept the terms, and it is claimed that he has been left out of the first team squad for pre-season training as a result. He will return this week if he writes new terms, but if he rejects the offer on the table, it is said that Barcelona will look to compensate for the risk of losing him for free in 12 months by selling up now.

It is common knowledge that Barcelona are struggling financially, so whatever modest fee they may raise for Moriba would help their cause. They are currently unable to register any new transfers or sign Lionel Messi to a new contract due to La Liga’s salary cap.

But whether interest from United or elsewhere in Europe will reappear in Moriba remains to be seen.
