Jordan Bardella, a political figure, expressed disapproval after Kylian Mbappe denounced extremism in French politics at the Euro 2024 preamble against Austria.

Footballer Marcus Thuram echoed similar sentiments. He implored citizens to thwart the rise of Bardella’s National Rally in the looming July elections.

Supporting Thuram’s stance, Mbappe, at a media briefing, endorsed similar principles without directly mentioning the National Rally.

“I oppose divisive ideologies and extremism,” Mbappe articulated. “Representing France fills me with pride, provided it mirrors my and our collective principles.”

He also warned that extremist forces were nudging close to the corridors of power.

Bardella quickly slammed Mbappe for mingling sports with politics.

“I hold our footballers, like Marcus Thuram and Kylian Mbappe, in great esteem. They are not just sports icons but also beacons for the youth,” Bardella stated on CNews TV.

However, he cautioned, “We ought to honor each French person’s ballot.”

Further critique followed. “It is disconcerting to observe wealthy athletes preaching to individuals grappling with insecurity and monetary strains in their daily lives,” he added.

Concurrently, Mbappe faces a personal setback. After sustaining a nasal fracture during the 1-0 triumph over Austria, he is set to miss an upcoming match against the Netherlands.
