Four German stars lack training for Hungary

Thomas Muller is among four players who will not participate in national team training on Monday after suffering a knee injury during Germany’s 4-2 victory against Portugal.

After losing to France in their Euro 2020 Group F opener, Joachim Low’s side was heavily criticized, while Muller was among those named for a performance under the pair.

However, the Bayern Munich star bounced back brilliantly with a much improved screen during Saturday’s victory over Portugal, which saw Die Mannschaft jump over the contestants to second place in the group on their way into their final match.

Muller is one of four players who will miss Monday’s session, which is confirmed by the national team’s official Twitter account.

Mats Hummels (knee), Ilkay Gundogan (calf) and Lukas Klostermann (muscle) are also struggling with training issues and Low will be without several members in his squad as they prepare for their last group game against Hungary.

Hungary won a draw with tournament favorites and world champions France just before the Germans blew away Fernando Santos Portugal this weekend and are likely to face stubborn opponents when the two sides meet in Munich’s Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.

None of the above players have yet been officially ruled out of the Hungarian match, but given the tight schedules, it is a worrying scenario for Low and the German fans.

A victory would see Germany advance to the 16-year-old regardless of other results. But a win for France would make them top the group.

Germany could still move forward even with defeat, but would have to rely on other results.
