Football variations that should be included

The Tokyo Olympics have a variety of new sports. Skateboarding, softball and surfing are just three of the many events that will make their debut in 2021, and there is still room for many others to join the Olympic family in the future.

Across the football world, there are many variations that would be ridiculously fun to watch at the Olympics, and including them would help open up a path to football for all of us ordinary people who can’t handle a gentle jog on a field.

Let’s take a look at some of the best.

We all love a good ointment, right? Well, why not do an Olympic event specifically dedicated to them?

There are so many different ways to do H & Vs. Maybe everyone needs to have a stint in goal in a four-way free-for-all. Maybe one country sends a goalkeeper to receive three volleyball players from another country.

Double points for a bike kick. Five for a dive head. Play it the way you want. There are no wrong answers.

The Olympic Committee flirted with including futsal (indoor, hard football) when they debuted at the 2018 Youth Olympics, but unfortunately we have never seen it make the next step up.

It’s a huge shame, because futsal is without a doubt more exciting than normal football and would attract an audience that can not really care about a 90-minute slog party in the grass.

Futsal is infinitely faster and can easily offer some of the best highlights of the entire game. Get it in.

If there is a World Cup, why can we not have it in the Olympics?

Beach soccer is mainly played by holidaymakers who have had one too many cervezor, and is actually one of the most popular variations of soccer on the planet. It has already been played to an elite standard and can be introduced to the Olympics immediately.

Custom-built beach soccer pitches may not exactly be the most useful after the games are over, but hey, figuring out what to do with it is not my job.

#Messi wins the crossbar challenge

– FC Barcelona (@FCBarcelona) 28 January 2021

If archery and shooting can be events, there is certainly a place for a good, old-fashioned crossbar challenge.

Most hits in a row? Who can beat the smallest bar? From the longest distance? Most in 60 seconds? One on one? The possibilities are endless.

You can add some bonus points for trick shots and even chuck in a three-point line like in basketball to add a little extra pizzazz to the whole thing. Write me down.

When you get a hit on the line to go through in Wembley Doubles ??? @ kierandowell1

Right, first things first, let’s make sure we’re all on the same page here. Wembley Doubles = World Cup Doubles, Knockout Doubles, Two-man Cuppies or any other name you want to give it.

Basically, it’s just a bunch of pairs in a challenge to hit a goalkeeper first.

Maybe each country brings a goalkeeper and they have to replace after a few minutes, or not even bring a goalkeeper and just play spider rules. The bloodbath is what makes it fun.

Check out the extraordinary freestyle skills at @GautierFayolle? ⚽️

– (@FIFAcom) April 30, 2020

Freestyle would be similar to gymnastics. Give someone a ball and let them go crazy on a skill-laden routine.

These days, there are so many freestylers who can not utilize their skills to the maximum because there is just nowhere to use them at the highest level. People do things that have never been done before, but you only see them if they manage to retweet to your feed.

Add agility courses if you want to make this a bigger thing. There is so much you can do about it.

– UEFA Champions League (@ChampionsLeague) 10 September 2020

Lock two elite freestylers in a cage and let them fight in a forehead war. Will it be more fun than that?

You can make this part of the “freestyle” category fast growing into the best hypothetical Olympic event of all time. Add your points from each round and you have the ultimate winner.

What makes this so special is that this type of football is the most accessible form of the game on the planet – you literally only need one ball – so we can even see champions from some of the smaller nations.

– TEQBALL (@Teqball) July 10, 2021

Teqball is a new wave of football and table tennis that is already so popular that it operates in a place in the Olympics.

You can have doubles and singles when players hit the ball back and forth over a bent table with anything but their hands or arms, creating a game that is so fun that professional football players have already fallen in love with it.

Ronaldinho is an ambassador for the sport, so the platform is there to help Teqball grow into one of the games’ best events.
