FIFA calls for “calm, constructive talks” over Super League plans

FIFA has released a statement condemning the idea of a Super League, while urging those involved to sit down for calm, constructive negotiations.

UEFA and the Premier League have both struck the idea of the Super League, which was officially confirmed late on Sunday night, with their statements taking a more aggressive pace. Clubs involved in the Super League were threatened with expulsion and bans from current competitions.

FIFA is the latest governing body to express its dissatisfaction with the plans, but instead of issuing threats, the organization seems to be trying to act as a peacemaker throughout.

UEFA, the English Football Association, the Premier League, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), LaLiga, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and Lega Serie A have today released a statement.

“Given several media inquiries and which have already been mentioned several times, FIFA wants to make it clear that it stands for solidarity in football and a fair redistribution model that can help develop football as a sport, especially at a global level, as the development of global football is FIFA ‘s main mission, “read a statement.

“In our view and in accordance with our statutes, every football competition, whether national, regional or global, should always reflect the fundamental principles of solidarity, inclusion, integrity and equitable economic redistribution. In addition, football’s governing bodies should employ all legal, sporting and diplomatic means to ensure that this remains the case.

Against this background, FIFA can only express its disapproval of a ‘closed European wrestling league’ outside international football structures and not respect the above principles.

“FIFA always stands for unity in world football and calls on all parties involved in heated discussions to participate in a calm, constructive and balanced dialogue for the good of the game and in a spirit of solidarity and fair play. FIFA will of course do what is needed to contribute to a harmonized way forward in the overall interest of football. “

It is a change of tone from FIFA, which had previously joined the threats against teams involved in the Super League.

Back in January, they released a statement insisting that all players participating in the new competition be banned from participating in the World Cup, with the six federations (AFC, CAF, Concacaf, CONMEBOL, OFC and UEFA) all prepared to ban players from their own continental competitions, including the European Championships.
