Chelsea broadcasts news: Guehi joins Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace have completed the signing of midfielder Marc Guehi from Chelsea on a five-year contract.

The 21-year-old has spent the last season and a half on loan at championship side Swansea and has helped them reach the play-offs twice, but on both occasions Brentford were flawed.

“I’m very excited. It’s a great opportunity for me to come to such a great club in the Premier League. I’m very happy to get started,” Guehi told the Palace website.

“[The club is taking] a really exciting direction with the new player that has come in. Many good young players are here and obviously such a stable club with top players really attracted me and made me want to come. ”

Palace chairman Steve Parish added: “We are very pleased to have signed Marc for Crystal Palace. He is an exciting talent and one that we believe will be a valuable addition to the squad as we build towards the coming season. ”

Guehi was a famous part of England for 17 years who won the World Cup 2017 and made a 5-2 victory over Spain in the final. He went on to win a remarkable quadruple with Chelsea’s academy side the following year.

The defender will be the Palace’s third senior signing of the summer, after the club completed moves for Reading playmaker Michael Olise and Sunderland goalkeeper Remi Matthews.

Palace have also recently appointed Patrick Vieira as their head after Roy Hodgson left the board after nearly four years in charge at Selhurst Park.

Guehi leaves Chelsea after playing just two seniors for the club – both coming in the League Cup – and joins academy candidate Fikayo Tomori out of the Stamford Bridge exit this summer. The Blues wished Guehi the best for the future in a club statement.
