City announced on Monday that Aguero would retire after ten years when his contract expired in the summer, which immediately led to interest from all angles.

Barcelona have already been linked with a move for the Argentine, but the Portuguese outlet Record reports that Benfica are “trying” to get Aguero and had to work on the go as soon as the announcement of his resignation was made.
They claim that the club has already contacted Aguero and even talked to their Portuguese teammates in Joao Cancelo and Ruben Dias to convince the 32-year-old to move to the club for next season. Benfica are also ready to call on other Argentines and Benfica alumni Pablo Aimar and Javier Saviola if needed.
Because Aguias would be willing to offer Aguero a three-year contract that would make him earn 12 million euros.
Aguero is not the first high-profile veteran striker to be linked with a move to Benfica, who are keen to start next season with an international star among the management, according to the report.

The club was linked with a move for Edinson Cavani before joining Manchester United last summer and was most recently named as a destination for Diego Costa, who is available for free after concluding his contract with Atletico Madrid.
While Aguero has struggled too late in England due to injuries, there is no doubt about the talent or ability he can still give to sides across Europe. The Argentine is City’s record shooter with 287 goals in 384 appearances and can still add to that mood, but has been limited to just 14 appearances in all competitions this season due to injury.
