Two Chinese nationals were abducted on Sunday evening, June 6, at a gold mine in western Niger, in the village of Mbanga. It is the first time Chinese have been kidnapped in this region bordering Burkina Faso. By Monday evening, the research had not yielded anything yet.

They are two Chinese technicians from the Comeren company, which mines gold in the eastern country. They were kidnapped during the night near the village of Mbanga, in its base located on the Sirba tributary of the Niger River, not far from the border with Burkina Faso. La Sirba is an area rich in gold where the latest attacks go back to ten days.

According to well-informed security sources, the seven Chinese technicians who left Niamey were officially informed of the dangers of kidnapping they are driving by going to this red zone in a state of emergency, where no two-wheeled vehicle and no unauthorized vehicle can circulate.

Despite warnings from security services, only four technicians returned. It was by bypassing the checkpoints with his guide and without a military escort that the three Chinese were in Sirba’s golden zone.

By attacking their base, the attackers kidnapped two Chinese technicians, the third managed to hide in the nearby bushes. He was found healthy by a special forces patrol. This is the first time Chinese citizens have been kidnapped in the western part of the country.
