In Burkina Faso, thousands of protesters marched through the streets of the capital to condemn the country’s insecurity. At the urging of opposition parties and certain civil society organizations, the protesters called for strong measures to curb the attacks attributed to jihadist groups.

Thousands of people, men, women, young and old, with all social backgrounds, have responded to the appeal of opposition parties and civil society organizations and marched on the streets of Ouagadougou. We could read on signs and banners: “Is there a president in Burkina Faso?”, “Save our country” or “Stop the massacre”. It is during a drive that the protesters completed the planned route in less than an hour.

Encourage general security meetings

In his statement to the protesters, Eddie Komboïgo, opposition leader, recalled that the people decided to demonstrate to protest the deteriorating security situation in the country. He immediately called for adequate equipment for the defense and security forces.

The leaders of the opposition are calling for an organization of the security general. Eddie Komboïgo and his friends say they are available to attend. They also questioned the usefulness of the presence of foreign forces in Burkina Faso if they could not make their surveillance equipment available to Burkinabe’s army. A protester tried to burn a flag. French but he was prevented from doing so. The flag was eventually handed over to the security forces.

Some of the protesters want the soldiers in the prison to be released since the coup in 2015. Among them is General Gilbert Dienderé, the man who was the core of the security system when Blaise Compaoré ruled the country.
