In Senegal, the mobile payment operator Wave announced on Saturday, June 5, that it had arrested the regulator to measure sales of Orange telephone credit through their platform, which has now become impossible. An announcement that falls a few days after the drastic 80% drop in Orange Money prices, in the country where the trade war is fierce between these two electronic money services.

as reported from Dakar, Thea Ollivier

Orange money transfer rates have dropped significantly. For a withdrawal of 5,000 francs, the costs are now 25 francs compared to 350 previously.

A way to adapt to the low prices of its competitor Wave, which took the opportunity to confirm its position before announcing that it has taken the regulator to discern the current impossibility of selling Orange telephone credit through their platform … A seizure going from Mars, specifies Coura Tine, head of Wave in Senegal.

“We sell the other two operators’ telephone credits. The partnership proposals were not acceptable from Orange, so we chose the regulator’s path, says Coura Tine, who expects guarantees for a “healthy partnership with Orange”.

According to Sonatel, an orange subsidiary in Senegal, the ball has now been in Wave’s court since an offer was made last month. “Wave believes that we must offer him a higher compensation than we proposed to him to cover the freebies they offer,” the operator replied in a press release.
