in the absence of consensus, the CDP will not appeal

The Congress of Democracy and Progress, the party of former President Blaise Compaoré, says it “notes” the preliminary results of the presidential election, announced by the Electoral Commission. The CDP had planned to appeal its findings following the irregularities observed during the vote. However, in the face of the lack of unanimity and consensus with the other opposition parties that signed the political agreement, the CDP refrains from doing so with regard to the presidential election.

as reported from Ouagadougou, Yaya Boudani

Those responsible for the Congress for Democracy and Progress (CDP) have returned to the organizational difficulties that marked the vote on 22 November 2020. They called it “pathetic”. But the party will ultimately not appeal the result of the presidential election, following a lack of consensus among opposition candidates, according to Topan Mohamed Sané, the CDP’s national campaign manager.

“We said we would appeal. Unfortunately, we have found that there is no unanimity or even unity. When we looked at the lyrics, we were too early. So it is more or less up to our defense body that the executive office decided not to appeal the presidential election, Topan Mohamed Sané explains.

Several failed candidates have already sent their congratulations to the PresidentRoch Marc Christian Kaboré after the preliminary results. The CDP’s national campaign manager announces thisEddie Komboïgo, the candidate who came second in the vote, will do so after the results have been confirmed: “If President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré is declared the winner of the Constitutional Council election, our candidate will congratulate him.”
