The French consul in Tangier was found dead at the consulate’s residence

Denis François, French Consul General in Tangier, was found dead this Thursday, November 19, in the consulate’s residence. The sad news was first announced on a Moroccan news website at the end of the morning before being confirmed by a tweet from the French embassy in Rabat.

The French Consul General in Tangier, Denis François, was found dead at the consulate’s residence. The lifeless body of the diplomat was discovered by his colleagues in his room around 7:00 am; this Thursday.

An investigation was launched by the public prosecutor’s office, which is currently being conducted by the Directorate-General for National Security, and was opened on the spot to determine the circumstances of his death. The French embassy has also sent its internal security agent to Tangier to cooperate with the Moroccan authorities.

At the moment, the circumstances of his death have still not been clarified. A source at the French embassy in Morocco says no lead has been ruled out without giving further details.

Denis François’ disappearance comes just over two months after his appointment, by decree, at the head of the Tangier consulate. At the age of 55, he had held various administrative and advisory positions for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris.
