Mechichi compiles a disastrous overview of the economic situation

Tunisia is undergoing an unprecedented crisis exacerbated by the health crisis. On Tuesday, the head of government drew up an overview of the economic and social situation. Accounts in red, unemployment at the highest level and an emigration of young people to Europe, all elements that Hichem Mechichi intends to rectify.

as reported from Tunis Michel Picard

“Tunisia is not bankrupt”, launched the CEO and immediately announced that the budget deficit by 2020 will reach a record level of 14% of GDP.

Since the fall of Ben Ali in 2011, the country has failed, he said, designing an economic model capable of giving Tunisians hope. Among the consequences is unemployment, which now reaches almost 20%. And this lack of visibility has, according to him, intensified illegal migration to Europe.

To stop the bleeding and restore the taste of Tunisia to young people tempted by the old continent, Hichem Mechichi is waiting for a gesture from the central bank and banks on major reforms in the 2021 budget project.

“We have to get back to work!” declared the tenant of the Kasbah, who also refuses to block the exploitation of the country’s wealth. He will thus put an end to the social movements that have disrupted the production of phosphate and oil for several months.
