South African woman gives birth to record 10

A 37-year-old South African woman broke the Guinness World Record by giving birth to ten children, according to media reports on Tuesday.

The IOL news site said that Gosiame Thamara Sithole, a resident of Tembisa East in Johannesburg, delivered seven boys and three girls by caesarean section at a hospital in Pretoria. Teboho Tsotetsi said his wife also had 6-year-old twins.

He said he was happy and emotional about the news. Reports earlier showed that Sithole was expecting eight children, but two apparently missed the scan because they were hidden in the wrong tube.

“I’m shocked by my pregnancy. It was tough at first. I was sick. It was hard for me. It’s still tough but I’m used to it now. I do not feel the pain anymore, but it’s still a little. I’m just asking. “For God to help me deliver all my children in a healthy state and for me and my children to come out alive. I would be happy with that,” Sithole told reporters earlier.

In May, a Malian woman was born to nonuplets in Morocco and broke the record held by an American Nadya Suleman, who gave birth to eight children in 2009.
