Northeastern State troops drop automobile bombs, killing 24 ISIS militants in operation

Somalia – Northeastern State’s security forces have killed at least 24 militants who are in line with the Islamic State group by direct fire during a series of operations over the past two days in parts of Bari province.

Following a tip-off, troops raided the base in the Al-Miskaat Mountains around the Balidhidin district, where ISIS stored heavy ammunition and materials for making IEDs and car bombs, according to the PSF.

A video clip released by the PSF showed troops blowing up two intercepted vehicles filled with explosive materials that ISIS members planned to use in terrorist attacks to harm innocent civilians.

Troops retrieved homemade explosives and firearms from the battlefield. ISIS fighters fled against the half-forest hills as PSF intensified their offensive.

The security forces of Somalia’s northeastern federal state continue to conduct frequent operations against the ISIS group in these parts, where the group has recently mobilized fighters in the hilly areas.

ISIS militants broke away from Al-Shabaab for 6 years and continued sporadic raids in the Bari region, where terrorist groups hide to train their warriors and orchestrators in Northeastern State.

Northeastern State, which has been relatively quiet for decades, now faces two challenges facing security forces from al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab and the growing presence of fighters linked to the Islamic State.
