in Kinshasa, a win-win match for

The ministerial meeting on the Renaissance dam officially opened on Sunday, April 4, in Kinshasa. The Ethiopian, Sudanese and Egyptian foreign ministers made the trip to the Congolese capital. They hope to move forward towards resolving the conflict as a result of the Ethiopians’ construction of this dam on the Nile. On the Congolese side, we hope that this meeting will be the starting point for the process of realizing an agreement between the parties to the conflict over this controversial dam.

as reported from Kinshasa, Patient Ligodi

With regard to Congolese mediation, we are very pleased that the three parties to the conflict agree to meet face to face despite the coronavirus pandemic. But everyone is aware of the difficulties of resolving this dispute. Félix Tshisekedi proposed that the Declaration of Principles be signed in 2015.

The meeting in Kinshasa, said the President of the African Union, aims to unleash a new dynamic to enable the consolidation and implementation of a roadmap by consensus. This work tool must set goals, periodicity and meeting places so as not to waste more time.

Concrete solutions

Felix Tshisekedi asked delegates to be concrete and propose solutions to the outstanding technical and legal issues with a view to reaching a “complete and final solution to the issue”.

The goal was to reach a win-win agreement that appeals to each other, he added. He urged stakeholders to move forward to ensure that Ethiopia meets its development goals while preserving the rights and interests of Egypt and Sudan.
